This site is designed to offer our friends, family, and ohana spread around the globe a glimpse of the beauty and spirit of our Island home and organic permaculture farm in Hawi, North Kohala on the northernmost tip of the Big Island of Hawaii. We have also devoted a portion of this site to describing and promoting programs that we facilitate and guide at a variety of venues throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

FamilyKohala Sanctuary ~ our home and farm ~ is an hour north of Kailua-Kona airport "mauka" (upcountry) from the villages of Hawi and Kapa'au in the rural North Kohala Peninsula where the road ends overlooking the spectacular Pololu Valley, the first of seven dramatically beautiful remote valleys. Acclaimed as an eco-tourist paradise, rural North Kohala offers the longest stretch of pristine undeveloped coastline in all of Hawaii with dramatic valleys and sea cliffs, whale watching vistas and myriad hiking trails. North Kohala is the birthplace of King Kamehameha and a region rich in cultural heritage and sacred sites imbued with the mana (spiritual power and energy) and history of the Hawaiian people.

Our Sanctuary is nestled on the lower slopes of the North Kohala mountains. From here sweeping views of Maui's majestic Haleakela crater, and the valleys of Kaupo, Kipahulu and Hana adorn the view. On a clear day the Islands of Molokini, Kahoolawe, Lanai, and Molokai are also visible from our land, and humback whales can often be seen breaching in the straits below.

Our twelve acre farm offers an immersion in the healing energies of the natural world and is graced with lush tropical gardens, abundant organic orchards, paths and Koi ponds, Balinese-Japanese-Mongolian inspired house, decks, and 30' round yurt, towering stands of timber bamboo, fragrant herbs, night gardens of perfumed jasmine and datura, and rolling green fields often arched by blazing rainbows for hours at a time. Our serene meditation grove has a Bodhi Tree - which is a descendant of the original Bodhi Tree in Bodhgaya where the Buddha realized Full Awakening. Our Kohala Sanctuary is truly a zone of peace and awe inspiring natural beauty.

We love sharing the beauty of farm with our ohana so if you are planning a journey to the Big Island and would like to visit and to spend some time with us here at the farm please let us know.
